GOES High Data Rate (HDR) Transmitter Description
|
|
The Stevens GOES HDR (high data rate) Transmitter (Model GHT) provides access to the NOAA/NESDIS GOES Data Collection System (DCS) and the EUMETSAT / METEOSAT Data Collection System for Stevens or third party data loggers and sensors deployed in environmental monitoring and data acquisition applications.

The Stevens GOES HDR is easy to program via menu driven commands and operates as an ASCII modem for use with most common data loggers capable of exporting data packets through their serial port (including Stevens AxSys, DOT, GS-93 and the Vitel VX1004). Features and advantages of Stevens GOES HDR (GHT) Transmitter include:
- Programming / setup is very easy using menu driven commands with any computers terminal program, such as Hyper Terminal. Therefore, the GHT requires no unique manufacturer provided program to learn and to be installed on your computer. Programming can also be done using a Window based setup program provided by Stevens call GHT Set.
- The Stevens GHT operates with most data loggers providing a serial output in two optional communication protocols:
a) The GHT continues listening for data from the logger, or
b) The GHT triggers a signal to the logger for data transfer.
- Using an OCXO (oven-controlled crystal reference oscillator) improves the reliability of transmissions, and results in the GHT not requiring a GPS fix to set frequency for each transmission. While the GHT is designed to establish a GPS fix and update every time it transmits, the GHT only requires a GPS fix once every 24 hours - not before every transmission. This design increases the reliability that a message will be delivered, especially in critical random transmission mode.
- The GHT internal clock (date and time) is set and updated automatically by the GPS reading. The internal clock does not need to be preset.
- Stevens is one of the only companies that designs, manufactures and sells its own GOES transmitter, the GOES DRGS (direct readout ground system), the transmitter antennas V2TH or V4Th), and a data on-line GOES data management, analysis and storage service known as GOESLink.com.
- The GHT can also be configured with optional data logging features all included in one enclosure. The data logging includes 4 analog, 4 pulse and 10 SDI-12 inputs.
The GHT is compatible with the following dataloggers (click a name for more information):
