The Stevens JL-2 charge controller is an intelligent battery charger / regulator, ensuring long life and strong operating performance for your rechargeable wet or gel cell battery.

Unique to other charge controllers, the Stevens’ JL-2 solar panel float charge regulators will charge a fully dissipated battery at the full current output of the solar panel and will automatically taper the charging current to zero as the terminal voltage of the battery approaches the float level of the charge. The charger than supplies the required trickle current of the battery to maintain the battery at the float level. Providing sufficient sunlight to produce the current, any additional current, due to the load of the battery, is automatically supplied as needed.

The JL 2 features a float threshold that may be regulated with the adjustment screw located on the top of the assembly near the battery leads. The 20 degree C float threshold may be set to any level between 11 and 16 volts.

An external temperature sensor that is held in contact with the battery case by an adjustable strap senses battery temperature. The temperature sensor is connected to the controller by an 8 ft. interconnecting cable. The float level of the regulator changes by approximately –23 millivolts per degree C - colder temperatures causing a higher float level.

The LED indicator on the JL2 indicates when there is ample current to charge the battery at the float level. The main purpose of this LED is to indicate that both the Charger and Solar Panel are functioning properly. The LED is powered from the solar panel, and will not be illuminated if there is no sunlight. A dimly lit LED indicates low sunlight levels and is insufficient for battery charging.
